Additional Forklift Class – With Existing Certification This is a half day course for students who already hold a current Forklift Operator Certificate but need an additional machine class for example you have a Counterbalance but need an additional class eg Reach Truck. Student must have a current WorkSafe Certificate with proof of completion (card or certificate presented) from any certified Training Provider registered in New Zealand which must be presented to AB Equipment before course start.

What is the purpose of an AB Equipment forklift operator course?

AB Equipment Forklift Operator Training Courses are designed to improve operating technique and make forklift operators more aware of the safety and mechanical implications of forklift operation.

As a result of improved techniques and greater knowledge, your operator becomes more productive and more profitable to your company, as well as meeting the obligations of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015

AB Equipment offers a range of forklift operator courses from learners to 'F' Endorsement. The courses cater for both individual and group requirements and can be held on-site at company premises (subject to numbers), or at any AB Equipment purpose-built branch facilities nationwide.

AB Equipment has WorkSafe & NZQA accredited Instructors conducting the following forklift courses nationwide.

Course - Additional Forklift Machine Course

1.       Offered to any Forklift Operator who holds a current Forklift Operator Certificate issued by any certified Training Provider registered in New Zealand so that they can add an additional machine class. For example currently hold certification on a Counterbalance Forklift but require an additional class certification eg Reach Truck or Ride on Pallet Truck or Walk Behind Pallet Truck or Stock Picker.

2.       Existing Forklift Operator Certificate must be current (proof provided).

3.       An Additional machine Certificate and wallet card will be issued with the new additional class eg Reach Truck Forklift. The issue date will be the date of successful completion of the Short course with a three year expiry date

 

On Short Course Completion

On successfully completing the course Operators will receive:

  • AB Equipment Ltd will issue a new Certificate for the Short Course machine dated on the date course was successfully completed, valid for 3 years.
  • A wallet-sized card which shows successful completion of a forklift short course machine class

What are my legal obligations?

Under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the Approved Code of Practice for Forklifts, it is a requirement that all Forklift Operators are trained, certified and authorised to operate forklifts.

Note: Holding a Motor Vehicle Licence, even with an 'F' Endorsement, does not entitle that person to operate a forklift in the workplace.

What would happen if a Forklift Operator had an accident and did not hold a current certificate issued by a WorkSafe Registered Instructor?

  • The Employer could be liable for prosecution as of the 5th of May 2003:
  • The maximum fine courts can impose has increased to $500,000, or two years in jail, or a combination of both.
  • Inspectors can issue infringement notices and impose fines of between $100 and $4,000 for minor breaches of the Act.

Note: Insurance companies may not cover any claims made where the Employer fails to train its staff according to the Act.

Prerequisites

  1. Students must select at least one additional machine type at check out for example Counterbalance Forklift, Reachtruck Forklift etc.
  2. Acceptance of all terms and conditions presented in enrolment process

  3. AB Equipment Ltd will issue a new Certificate for the Short Course machine on the date it is successfully completed, valid for 3 years.
  4. Existing Forklift Operator Certificate must be current at time of short course.
  5. Students must select one of the additional "Options" at checkout to select which class of machine to be examined on Reach Truck or Ride on Pallet Truck or Walk Behind Pallet Truck or Stock Picker.
  6. Students must have a current WorkSafe Certificate with proof of completion (card or certificate presented) from any certified Training Provider registered in New Zealand in support of prerequisite 2,3,4 and AB Equipment will retain a photocopy or photo for audit purposes.
  7. Clothing should not be too loose or baggy such that it could be snagged or become entangled in machinery.
  8. Wear steel capped work boots if you have them or fully enclosed flat shoes suitable for operating heavy machinery.
  9. Long hair must be tied back.
