Forklift Operator and Optional Forklift (F) Endorsement Certificate
This course is a one-day course designed for operators who have different levels of practical experience (Learner, Standard, Refresher) operating forklifts but do not hold a certificate or requires renewal. We also offer an Forklift (F) Endorsement course which when added to a NZ Drivers License Class 1 allows the holder to drive on a road (road includes: a place to which the public have access, whether as of right or not. Public roads include, but are not limited to: car parks, driveways, footpaths).

What is the purpose of an AB Equipment forklift operator course?
AB Equipment Forklift Operator Training Courses are designed to improve operating technique and make forklift operators more aware of the safety and mechanical implications of forklift operation.
As a result of improved techniques and greater knowledge, your operator becomes more productive and more profitable to your company, as well as meeting the obligations of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.
AB Equipment offers a range of forklift operator courses from learners to 'F' Endorsement. The courses cater for both individual and group requirements and can be held on-site at company premises (subject to numbers), or at any AB Equipment purpose-built branch facilities nationwide.
AB Equipment has Department of Labour & NZQA accredited Instructors conducting the following forklift courses nationwide.

Courses Available
Learners Forklift Operators Course
This course is for people with no practical experience on a forklift.
Standard Forklift Operators Course
This course is designed for operators who have experience but who do not hold a certificate.
Refresher Forklift Operators Course
This course is designed for operators who have held a certificate for 3 years and require re-certification. The certificate must be current (not expired) and the student must bring this with them to the course (Wallet Card or Certificate)
F Endorsement Assessment
For operators who are required to operate a forklift on a road, or anywhere deemed to be a road. The F Endorsement can be run in conjunction with one of the above courses. Note: to complete the F Endorsement you must select a Counter Balance as one of the machines to be tested on because is this the only machine type which generally can be registered for the road.
Unit Standards
AB Equipment Instructors are also Work Place Assessors for the following unit standard (at level 3):
Unit Standard 18496 - Demonstrate knowledge and skills for driving a forklift on a road for endorsement F (2 credits)
Unit Standard 10851 – Operate a powered industrial lift truck (forklift) (7 credits) *Note this is a separate standalone course (see link below)
Note: AB Equipment will supply refreshments, and all stationery requirements. Refreshments are not supplied for on-site courses.
On Course Completion
On successfully completing the course Operators will receive:
- A Department of Labour approved certificate, and/or a New Zealand Transport Agency certificate (F Endorsement)
- A covering letter detailing course results and other additional information
- A wallet-sized certificate that includes employer's authorisation.
- A Forklift Operators handbook
- A pen
- A cap

What are my legal obligations?
Under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and the Approved Code of Practice for Forklifts, it is a requirement that all Forklift Operators are trained, certified and authorised to operate forklifts.
Note: Holding a Motor Vehicle Licence, even with an 'F' Endorsement, does not entitle that person to operate a forklift in the workplace.
What would happen if a Forklift Operator had an accident and did not hold a current certificate issued by a Department of Labour Registered Instructor?
- The Employer could be liable for prosecution as of the 5th of May 2003:
- The maximum fine courts can impose has increased to $500,000, or two years in jail, or a combination of both.
- Inspectors can issue infringement notices and impose fines of between $100 and $4,000 for minor breaches of the Act.
Note: Insurance companies may not cover any claims made where the Employer fails to train its staff according to the Act.

Prerequisites
- Acceptance of all terms and conditions presented in enrolment process
- Clothing should not be too loose or baggy such that it could be snagged or become entangled in machinery.
- Wear steel capped work boots if you have them or fully enclosed flat shoes suitable for operating heavy machinery.
- Long hair must be tied back.
- Those completing the optional Forklift (F) endorsement
- Must have NZ Drivers License Full Class 1
- No Alcohol Interlock License
- No Special Conditions "Must be accompanied by supervisor (except moped/ATV)"
- Those who declare they are "Refreshers" must bring proof of current (in date) certification refer terms and conditions point 3.3(c)
